How did the Uphill logo come into being?

When a logo is needed, what can be better than to have an artistic family member on hand?

Trustee Liddy's daughter, Catriona, came up with a lovely idea for a simple but effective visual brand for The Uphill Trust, using the red, yellow and black colours of the Ugandan national flag to great effect.  With a little tweaking, The Uphill Trust logo was born and, by swapping out the yellow of the flag and substituting the blue of the pupils' uniform shirts, a matching logo was created for Uphill Junior School.

The logo's and are being used widely in both organisations, to great effect.

Catriona is a student at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in Dundee and you can see more of her work on her tumblr and twitter feeds. Update: Catriona graduated in 2016 and she now has a website which showcases her work

And the inspiration for the winding red road in the logo? One of the roads through the crater lake hills to the village of Iruhuura (see below). Some of the children at Uphill Junior School live in these hillside shambas (small-holdings) and this road has become a favourite route back to Fort Portal for the Trustees.
